January refresh for your mind, body & closet

January is the start of a new year and I don't know about you but it always inspires me to start making some postive changes. Maybe it's working out, or going out with friends more. Getting organized and refreshing your home and closets. Here are a few helpful tips to refresh your mind, body & closet for the year ahead. 

MIND

Start focusing more on yourself and schedule in some time for your own personal goals and aspirations! If you're an employee, mom, wife, girlfriend, etc, I find women tend to put themselves last. There's always one more chore to do or person to help. It's time to make YOU a priority. Not that everything else isn't imporant... but it's a lot easier to tackle the day when you feel good about yourself and have a positve mindset. Some easy and quick thinks you can start doing are: (1) a quick 5-10 minute mediation to start or end your day and clear away some stress. simple as that, set the timer, close your eyes, focus on your breath. (2) find more happiness. brainstorm some small things you can do to bring more happiness and/or less stress to your life. sometimes it's just taking the time to recognize what your needs are and it brings some much needed clarity and self awareness (3) start every morning with 3 positive thoughts. even if it's a really bad day, force youself to find 3 things to be greatful for in your life. 

BODY

First, let's talk about forgivness..... I feel like every year I get this post holiday hangover. Depressed about how bad I ate, shocked at how much money I spent, and sad that the holidays are over. Well regardless of how many moments of weakness i've had ... it's time to snap out of it, forgive and start fresh. It's a new day and time to look towards the future instead of dwelling on the past. So lets get started:  (1) hydrate...lets start easy...drinking more water during the day is so incredibly helpful for your complexion, digestion, energizing muscles and to detox your body. Change it up by adding fresh lemon, cucumer or some fresh basil or mint. (2) make achievable goals. start off with some small goals that you know you can reach. It will give you some encouragement and motivation once you acheive them and keep that momentum going. For me I usualy start with excercising for a minimum of 25 minutes 3 times a week. (3) trick yourself into eating healthy... yes i said trick yourself. Think about the delicious healthy things you want to eat the next day before you go to bed. You'll find you have some cravings for those meals you fantisized about the night before and eating healthy will taste sweeter. 

CLOSET

I don't know about you, but I have a little bit of a shopping problem. I'm obsessed with new trends and fashion and well, it just plain makes me happy to buy new things. To make matters worse I don't perge old clothes nearly as much as I should. Sooooo, it's officially time to start refreshing those closests. Side Note: start 1 closet at a time.  (1) trash stretched out, ripped and stained everything. clothes, socks, underwear, accessories, etc. (2) go through your styles and pull out anything that doesn't fit well. It's not worth holding onto ill fitting clothing that doesn't flatter you. Side Note... size doesn't matter. there are not standard sizes in womens clothing so don't get wrapped up in a size. If it fits and looks great on than rip out the tag if it makes you feel better... ok, cut out the tag... i just gave myself anxiety about possibly ripping a perfectly good style. (3) donate anything you haven't worn in over a year or styles that you just don't love anymore. Make note of anything you're now in need of to complete your waredrobe and splerge on a couple new styles and accessories at Thistle & Reed to update your previously loved styles and add in some fresh new looks.
